I've always been a huge AMD fan and don't plan on changing soon, so don't hate cause I know Intel's better, now :P.

Cheaper in stores than the internet, of course. I'm going with these (except the processor) and eventually putting another identical vid card and another 2 gigs of RAM. Like I said, good upgrades and they're cheap.

Mythic has said dual-core processing is the best way to beef up performance. They've confirmed you will not notice a huge difference going with a multi-GPU platform or even a quad core.
My dad has an athlon 64 x2 5200+ with an 8800GT in his rig and can max out Warhammer online. I have a Phenom 9850 with 4850s in CF and it doesn't run a whole heck of a lot better. Then again he's topping out at 60fps at 1680x1050 and I'm getting about 65fps on 1920x1200.

As far as recommending an 8800GTS, I would personally recommend an ATi HD4850 over it. About the same price, too, after rebate.
I did get both of my 4850s from Best Buy last week for $150 each though. =)
